DFSee, which was presented by Tony Butka at the March 2004 SCOUG general meeting, is now at version 7.15 as of 12/31/2005. It is an FDISK, display, analysis, and recovery tool for disks and filesystems. It includes the ability to resize FAT and FAT32 partitions, and has some JFS and LVM support. NOTES:

Jan van Wijk, the author of DFSee, has released TPOSD (ThinkPad On Screen Display utility) version 1.08 as of 12/23/2005. It displays the current settings for several ThinkPad BIOS-related settings, such as:

• Speaker volume and muting
• LCD brightness
• Monitor selection (VGA/LCD/dual)

NetLabs has released Samba version 3.0.9 alpha 7 as of 12/19/2005; both client and server are included. Also available is version 3.0.9 beta 12 of a client plugin for the NetDrive filesystem, which supports 64-bit file I/O with NDFS 3.0 or higher. Samba allows you to mount SMB or CIFS shares on OS/2 without the need of NetBIOS (IBM LAN Manager or IBM Peer). Moneydance 2006 has been released as of 11/29/2005. It is a personal finance manager written completely in Java. It includes transaction auto-completion, graphing, reporting, a reconciliation tool, running cleared vs. uncleared balances, transaction sorting, double-entry, multiple currencies, multiple accounts, and much more. bootAble version 4.2.3 has been released as of 11/28/2005. This is a script which can be used to create a maintenance partition or bootable CD with enough facilities to fully manage and recover your system. It contains support for LVM, HPFS, JFS, FAT32, UDF (turned off by default), and the CD file system. Go to http://www.xs4all.nl/~hrbaan/.

PHP version 5.1.1 has been released as of 12/01/2005. It is a server-side scripting language for the Web. Go to http://smedley.info/os2ports.html.

PHPMyAdmin version 2.7.0-pl2 has been released as of 12/27/2005. This is a set of PHP scripts to administer MySQL over the web. Go to http://phpmyadmin.sourceforge.net/.

UpdCD version 2.54 has been released as of 12/10/2005. It can be used to update the base Warp 3, Warp 4, Warp Server for e-Business, Convenience Pack, or eComStation installation files with FixPaks, and supports the creation of updated installation diskettes. You can use the updated OS/2 image in conjunction with these diskettes to create new installations of OS/2 which already incorporate the FixPaks and other software. Go to http://www.updcd.tk. NOTE: This is a fix release which should be installed on top of an existing UpdCD 2.5x installation.

XWLAN version 2.12 has been released as of 12/22/2005. It is an XCenter widget that allows you to monitor the status of your wireless LAN devices, providing connection profile support, automatic connection scan on startup and key generation, profile import/export and more. It is available as XCenter widget and stand-alone program; it requires wireless LAN hardware and drivers. English and German National Language support. Use search key xwlan on Hobbes. NOTE: XWorkPlace or eWorkPlace (which comes with eComStation) is a prerequisite.

JRescuer version 2.30 has been released as of 12/14/2005. Included is JUne (JFS Unerase) version 2.20. This is a tool to rescue files from a JFS volume which cannot be mounted. Go to http://en.ecomstation.ru/projects/jrescuer/.

Paul Smedley has released a build of Apache version 2.2.0 as of 12/11/2005. Apache is the premier web server of the Internet; newer versions use multi-threading and offer big performance improvements over the 1.x series. Go to http://smedley.info/os2ports.html.

Tame/2 version 1.03 has been updated as of 12/19/2005. It is a GUI front-end for SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy), which now comes as a complete scanning solution, together with SANE 1.0.17 for SCSI and USB scanners. It has a preview window, supports MMOS2 image formats and light tables, and more. Many scanners from Microtek, Epson, HP, Mustek, Umax, and more are known to be working with this package. SciTech SNAP Graphics version 3.1.3 beta has been released as of 12/09/2005. This is a universal video driver, with support for over 230 graphic chipsets, with extra features like zooming and multi-head. The latest version adds support for more Nvidia and ATI chipsets, video overlays on Intel chipsets, software OpenGL 1.5 support, optional unattended installation, and more. A USB 1.1 Expanded Control Driver has been updated as of 12/06/2005. It provides the source code of a device driver to directly control classless USB devices attached to an OS/2 system. It includes 2 sample applications written in C and 3 sample REXX procedures. It has been specifically designed to ease the development and test of simple homemade USB devices under OS/2. If you are a registered eComStation user, and you have a sound card with the Crystal PCI Soundfusion 46XX or AC 97 chipset, there is a driver update for use with eComStation 1.2. NOTE: If you have the eComStation 1.2 Media Refresh, the updated driver may already be included, according to the eComStation website.

DaniS506 version 1.7.5 has been released as of 12/03/2005. It is a replacement for IBM's IBM1S506 EIDE driver, which features support for many chipsets, PCCard controllers, busmastering, Ultra33 DMA, Ultra ATA-66, Ultra ATA-100, faster PIO due to 32-bit I/O, serial ATA, and much more. IBM has updated the IDEDASD driver as of 11/29/2005. It includes updated OS2DASD.DMD, OS2CDROM.DMD, IBM1FLPY.ADD, and of course the IDE support (IBM1S506 and IBMATAPI, if you are not using the Danis versions). USBCFG beta 3 has been released as of 12/27/2005. This application is designed to help configure/re-configure USB drivers & devices. It does not install USB drivers; it helps sort out driver parameters. Use search key usbcfg on Hobbes.

Seamonkey verision 1.0 beta has been released as of 12/20/2005. This is a continuation of the Mozilla Suite, which was discontinued by the Mozilla Foundation. It is based on the Mozilla 1.8.x code base, just as Firefox 1.5 and Thunderbird 1.5 are. Go to to ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/1.0b/contrib/.

2. If you download the zip file version, you must unzip the zip file yourself into a directory and then create or update a program object accordingly.
3. This version requires the GCC runtime: download that at http://download.innotek.de/gccos2/runtime/libc-0.5.1.exe (a self-installing executable). The EMX runtime is no longer required if you don't already have it installed. The GCC runtime installer defaults to x:\OS2\DLL (where x is your OS/2 or eComStation boot drive); it may be preferable to put the runtime in the same directory as the Seamonkey executable.
4. This version requires an updated version of IPLUGINW.DLL for Java support; go to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=196271.
5. Harry Travis posted to the VOICE newslist back in Sept. 2005, that for anti-aliased fonts, it is easier to simply rename SEAMONKEY.EXE to MOZILLA.EXE, instead of using REGEDIT2 to update the registry to add SEAMONKEY.EXE at the "appropriate places" (without further details of exactly where).

IBM has updated Java 2 (JDK 1.3.1) as of 11/29/2005. It includes Java Web Start, a XML parser, and a plugin for WarpZilla/Firefox and IBM Web Browser, so that they can use Java. zmuzic version 0.9b has been released as of 12/01/2005. It is a PM front-end for the z! music player. Use search key zmuzic on Hobbes.

JExpress Professional version 6.9.8 has been released. It allows you to create Java-based multilingual installers and auto-updaters. An easy-to-use Swing interface allows you to design your installers quickly without requiring any programming. It can also select the exact classes your Java app uses, build your directory tree, and produce JAR files. Go to http://www.denova.com/.

FlashBlock version 1.5 has been released as of 11/30/2005. This is a Mozilla/Firefox extension that replaces Flash animations with a "click to play" placeholder. Go to http://flashblock.mozdev.org/.

Ghostscript version 8.53 has been released as of 10/25/2005. This is a freeware PostScript interpreter/converter for generating Acrobat (PDF) documents. Go to http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/. It is also the display engine for GSView. For GSView, go to http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/.

Maul Publisher version 3.04 has been released as of 12/11/2005. It is billed as "the world's first professional desktop publisher for OS/2". It will automatically take care of page numbering in folding booklets, reversal of margins for facing pages, page numbering offsets where you don't want to start from Page 1, reversal of margins for top-bound booklets and top-folding booklets, centering margins on printers with odd margins, and multi-way folding sheets and maps. In addition, you have full control of column, row, gutter, and center gutter guides, including the automatic adjustment of page offsets when a number of sheets are bound into a folding booklet. Reinhard Berger has released a TCP/IP configuration program as of 12/14/2005. It is intended to replace the Java TCPCFG2 program. Use search key tcpconfig on Hobbes.

Image Magick version 6.2.5 has been released as of 12/10/2005. This is a free software suite to create, edit, and compose bitmap images. It can read, convert, and write images in a large variety of formats. Go to http://smedley.info/os2ports.html.

IBM Alphaworks has released version 1.2.7 of an MPEG-4 player and content creator development kit as of 12/08/2005. It requires Java 1.3.1; according to Steve Wendt, it plays MPEG-4 video (samples included) just fine on a PII-300 MHz machine. Go to http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/tk4mpeg4.

WDSibyl has been updated as of 12/07/2005. This is an open-source continuation of the commercial product Sibyl, which is a Pascal/Delphi compiler. Go to http://members.chello.at/webstar/wdsibyl.html. NOTE: The website is in German, but there is English documentation available.

ChatZilla version 0.9.69.1 has been released as of 12/16/2005. This is the IRC client that comes with the Mozilla suite. It now supports SSL and full Unicode nicknames. Go to http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/chatzilla/.

Batchburn version 3.02 has been released as of 12/12/2005. It is a set of batch files for use with CDRecord. These batch files simplify the use of CDRecord. You can clone CDs, burn ISO images, do LAME/GOGO-based MP3 conversion and more. The archive (Zip) file also contains DO.EXE, a multi-purpose command-line program, that lists files, searches text, shows free disk space, and locates .EXE files in the PATH environment. Open Watcom, which was featured at two SCOUG general meetings in 2002, is now at version 1.4 RC3 (release candidate 3) as of 12/13/2005. This is an open-source release of the Watcom C, C++, and FORTRAN compilers, and includes an OS/2 installer. Harddisk Manager version 1.1.5 has been released as of 12/17/2005. It is a replacement for IBM's LVMGUI, which requires Java 1.3 or later. It features a Swing interface, FAT32 and ext2/3 support, and more. Use search key hdman on Hobbes.

Top10 version 1.0 has been released as of 12/17/2005. It is a simple program that will list the 10 largest files, searching the current directory and all subdirectories. Use search key top10 on Hobbes.

NesCafe version 0.614 has been released. It is a Java Nintendo Entertainment System emulator, which includes the source code under the GPL. Go to http://www.davieboy.net/nescafe/.

EmperoarTV, which was demoed by Jerry Rash at the July 2004 SCOUG general meeting, is now at version 1.08p as of 12/09/2005. This software brings support for the Hauppauge PVR150/250/350/500 TV cards, including high-quality MPEG2 hard disk recording and playback. You can listen to FM radio programs in stereo, watch TV programs in excellent image quality, and more. Also available is DVDFront, a front-end that simplifies the creation of video DVDs out of recordings made by EmperoarTV. It now supports both WarpOverlay and SNAP overlays. LCSS version 0.03 has been released as of 12/26/2005. It is an alternative to CFGSORT used with eComStation 1.2 to sort the entries in CONFIG.SYS. It sorts the entries into more logical sections, which according to the author (Doug Bisset) is much easier to find things in. Use search key lcss on Hobbes. NOTE: This is a beta version, so read the README file and make a backup copy of your CONFIG.SYS before trying it out.

UPS Power Manager version 1.01 has been released as of 12/27/2005. This works with several UPS models that have a serial port, including some from Fenton Technologies, Effekta, PowerGuard, PowerCom, Giant Power, Unitek, SuperPower, and more. Go to http://www.manglais.com/ups/.

PMMIncoming version 2.02 has been released as of 12/20/2005. This REXX script manipulates malformed e-mails so that they will be correctly handled by PMMail/2. Also available is a script for integrating PMMail with Mozilla. Go to http://www.infinity-2.de/.
