Actually, I forgot my first rule for trouble shooting (I seem to forget a  
lot lately). I finally powered down the hard drive, and when I turned it  
back on, the MBR error was gone. I was then able to easily create the  
volume, format the partition, and get back to work.  
 
I have sent an email to the software company, Acronis, about a bug in  
their latest version (9.0) of Trueimage.
