It seems a bit dated. Most recent UNIAUD from that site is Jan 04. I
am using Sept 04.

I have a couple suggestions. UNIAUD has, at least in some cases, made
sound P&P. I have a machine using UNIAUD on a SB Live 5.1. I cloned
the HDD and put it in a new machine, plugged the speakers into
internal and booted. Startup system sound worked.
Try this. Install UNIAUD; first with zero devices then one device.
Remove any sound card, activate internal sound, boot. Any sound, is
it good enough, if so, all finished. Hopping for something better?
Plug in a card, deactivate internal sound, boot. It just might work.
