Exactly how are you using it?  Perhaps you want something like head rather 
than less.  Head can be told to list just the first 10 lines and exit.

That's the way it works.  Use q to exit.  Use --help to get help.  There's 
lots of features and lots of help.  Use -z 15 to set your window.

Yes, it's an excellent less and it works just like I would expect a unix 
less to work.  It may be a more capable viewer than you need.
