To the best of my knowledge (always a hazardous statement), UDF is
essential for DVD stuff; I happily read & burned CDs *for years*
without it.

That said, getting the right combination of drivers -- and driver
*versions* -- if you want to cover all the things you will likely want
to do, is still WAY too dicey a proposition on our platform. See
another post or two on the subject I will be putting up shortly.
