You are correct. The IBM button invokes dialer.exe. The Alternate
button, invokes slippm.exe. Note that slippm.exe is not a dialer. It is
a front-end to the dialer. You can't see it, but it invokes either
ppp.exe or slip.exe to make the connection.

Use your favorite .ini file editor and change the CONNECTION/DEFAULT_APP
key in \mptn\etc\tcpos2.ini to invoke slippm.exe.

Right, you are looking at the slippm main dialog.

It mostly depends on the what sort of authentication the ISP requires.
DOIP supports several methods. Injoy does more. The PPP part of the
connection is pretty much standard.

Most of the tech's don't know much about the internals of what they are

That's not quite true. What's hardwired is in the FTP-Modem object. To
see this, find ftppm.exe in \tcpip\bin and run it. It will not invoke
linkup.
