Warp on the Web
With Reports on Web Browsers for OS/2

A Quick Look at Web Explorer

July 21, 2001

by Dave Watson

Summary: The original bundled web browser with a commercial operating system. First available with Warp 3 in 1995, it was updated frequently until December 1996 when Netscape for OS/2 succeeded it. Requires separate installation of Java. Doesn't support frames. Nice demonstration of multithreading by showing status of up to 8 separate actions ongoing at the same time.

Source: Free from http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/

Version: 1.1h

Installation: Good installer, puts it in the OS2/TCPIP directory.

Features: Servicable browser for most web sites.

Problems: Complicated use of Java and limited OS/2 plugins. No frames or other advanced HTML features.

Recommendation: Nostalgia use only.

Take a look at the browser overview with quick looks at other web browsers for OS/2.
