Updates from last month's column:

The WarpZilla team has released as of 09/18/2001 WarpZilla version 0.9.4. This is an update to Warpzilla 0.9.2 that Dave Watson demoed at the July 2001 SCOUG general meeting, and now has SSL support. Go to ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla0.9.4/. The file is mozilla-i386-pcos2-vacpp-0.9.4.zip.

SciTech Display Doctor beta 43 has been released as of 09/13/2001. Go to ftp://ftp.scitechsoft.com/sdd/beta/os2/sdd-os2-7.0.7-b43.exe. The list of changes is at http://www.scitechsoft.com/sdd2_changes.txt; the README file is at ftp://ftp.scitechsoft.com/sdd/beta/os2/readme.txt.

SIO version 2.00b is now available as of 09/22/2001. This is a replacement for the COM.SYS/VCOM.SYS drivers that come with OS/2. Go to http://www.gwinn.com/.

GSView version 4.02 beta has been released as of 09/13/2001. It is a PM front-end for GhostScript, as demoed by Tony Butka at the July 2001 General Interest Group. Some minor enhancements and fixes are incorporated. Go to http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/.

Odin Bug Report Generator version 0.5.0, which was mentioned by Steven Levine during his Odin presentation at the Aug. 2001 SCOUG general meeting, has been released as of 09/04/2001. As the name implies, this is a tool to easily generate Odin bug reports, and supercedes an older version that is included with Odin. Use search key odinbug on Hobbes.

DFSee, which was demoed at the June 2001 SCOUG meeting, has been updated to version 4.03 as of 09/20/2001. It is a FDISK, display, analysis and recovery tool for disks and filesystems. It now includes some JFS and LVM support. Go to http://www.fsys.demon.nl/dfsee.htm. NOTE: DFSee is now shareware.

NetDrive version 2.0.1 has been released as of 09/08/2001. It allows users to mount an FTP site or a local directory or a network resource to a virtual volume. There are also many plugins available now. Go to http://www.blueprintsoftware.com/netdrive/.

JJSCDROM.DMD has been updated as of 09/13/2001. It is a modified version of OS2CDROM.DMD based on the latest OS/2 DDK on-line source code. JJSCDROM.DMD now can be used together with UDF.IFS and CD-RW writers. Use search key jjscd on Hobbes.

IBM has updated as of 09/14/2001 the BIOS for the Thinkpad T22 series. Go to ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/mobiles/spsd1626.exe.

Psion OS/2 utilities version 1.3, some text-mode FTP-like utilities for the Psion handhelds, has been released as of 09/27/2001. There is now a NetDrive plugin available also. Go to ftp://cbs-edu.chel.su/pub/Porro/Psion/.

DSK4PMA version 4.21 has been released as of 09/17/2001. It is a PM tool for extracting and generating diskettes from .DSK images (i.e., a replacement for LOADDSKF.EXE that is on the Warp CD-ROM). Go to http://dvalot.free.fr/emtcopy.htm.

Audio/Data-CD-Creator version 0.49 has been released as of 09/28/2001. It is a folder class for the WPS which works as a front-end for cdrecord/2 for creating audio and data CD's. Just put wavefiles or data into this folder and press "write". Arbitrary ordering of files is possible via drag-and-drop. Go to http://www.os2world.com/cdwriting/creator/creatormain.htm.

A ThirdEye plugin for NetDrive has been released as of 09/28/2001. It has support for Fuji, Canon, and Kodak 3200 cameras. This allows you to browse the pictures in your digital camera with your favorite file manager or the WPS. Go to http://ecomstation.ru/thirdeye/netdrive.php.


This month's new listings - Drivers:

ISOFS version 0.2 has been released as of 09/01/2001. It is an installable file system (IFS) to access ISO rawfiles suitable for burning on CD. It allows transparent read-only access to the contents of the raw file. This version is mostly bug fixes and more descriptive error messages. Go to http://www.os2world.com/cdwriting/.

SoundBlaster Live! driver version 0.80 has been released as of 09/28/2001. It features: up to 32 simultaneous wave playback streams, recording stream, full duplex, support for the IOCTL90 mixer interface, and full source code is available from the Netlabs CVS server. Go to http://www.xs4all.nl/~sandervl/sbliveos2.zip.

DaniDASD version 1.4.0 has been released as of 09/23/2001. It is a replacement for OS2DASD.DMD. Use search key danidasd on Hobbes. More info is at http://www.os2bbs.com:80/os2news/. NOTE: By the time you read this, you may need to click on the "More Files" link to read the information.

Daniela Engert has refreshed as of 09/23/2001 a patch to OS2LDR that fixes the OS/2 >64MB memory detection defect found with recent BIOSes. Use search key patchldr on Hobbes.

The open-source C-Media audio driver has been ported to OS/2 as of 09/26/2001. It supports the C-Media CMI8738 sound chip, and is based on Sander van Leeuwen's SoundBlaster Live! project. Use search key cmedia on Hobbes.

There is a collection of various network interface card drivers, called The Network Interface Card Pak (NICPak); it has been updated as of 09/25/2001. It also includes a tool for detecting and installing the drivers. Go to http://pws.prserv.net/mckinnis/nicpak/.


This month's new listings - Applications:

IBM has updated as of 08/31/2001 the IBM Web Browser for OS/2 (which was demonstrated by Dave Watson at the July 2001 SCOUG general meeting). HOWEVER: you must have a current Software Choice subscription to download. Go to http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/asd-bin/doc/en_us/ns50/f-feat.htm.

IBM has released as of 09/14/2001 updates for Java 1.1.8. Go to ftp://ftp.hursley.ibm.com/pub/java/fixes/os2/11/118/. NOTE: You must have Java 1.1.8 already installed prior to applying the update.

IBM's Mozilla porting team has released as of 09/24/2001 some optimization fixes for Visual Age for C version 3.6. Go to ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/warpzilla/vacppoptfix.zip.

cdrecord version 1.11a06 has been released as of 09/03/2001. It is a tool to burn single-session, multi-session, or audio CD's. It is freeware, and you can find it at Hobbes as cdrecord-1_11a06_os2.zip.

The P6/K7 MTRR (Memory Type Range Registers) management package has been updated as of 09/27/2001 to version 0.07a. This is a device driver that can manage MTRR's of Intel P6 and AMD K7 series processors. It includes VFBWC.EXE, which uses MTRR write-combining for the video frame buffer; this can often improve graphic performance, especially DIVE. Go to http://www.sys3175.com/~jjsuwa/.

StHWMon version 0.17B has been updated as of 08/26/2001. It is a temperature / fan / voltage monitor for motherboards with the VIA_82C686 chip. It can shut down OS/2 and do an APM power-off if a failure occurs. Go to http://home.t-online.de/home/stefan.milcke/hwmon_en.htm.

ebaybot is a REXX script to place an eBay bid at the last possible moment. This was released on 08/31/2001 and is available from Hobbes with search key ebay.

Tauto AVC version 1.02 has been released. This is an answering machine for the US Robotics Courier modem. Go to http://avcos2.narod.ru/tauto.html. NOTE: The web site is in Russian, but the program is in English.

Polarbar Mailer version 1.21a has been released as of 09/27/2001. This Java e-mail program came from the source code release of JStreet Mailer. Go to http://www.polarbar.org/.

LAME version 3.90a7 has been released as of 09/09/2001. This is a MP3 encoder. This version improves the sound quality, and now has OS/2-specific options to control the program's priority. Use search key lame on Hobbes.

CDR/RW Wizard version 1.0 beta 1 has been released as of 09/19/2001. It is a GUI wizard interface to CDRecord/2 to burn CDR/CDRW (data, audio, etc.). It now features BootWizard for creating bootable CD's, and CDRDAO/2 support. Go to http://web.tiscali.it/foros2.

GNU Privacy Guard version 1.06 has been ported to OS/2 as of 09/12/2001. It is a complete and free replacement for PGP. Because it doesn't use IDEA or RSA, it can be used without any restrictions. Use search key gnupg on Hobbes.

MAME, the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, has been updated as of 09/24/2001 to version 0.37b14. This version was re-written from scratch to use the DualMode library for full-screen and windowed graphics and contains a completely new GUI. This version supports over 2,800 arcade games. InCharge, the financial management system, has been updated as of 09/22/2001 to version 1.02.73a. Go to http://www.spitfiresoftware.com/.

ZOC version 4.03 has been released as of 09/21/2001. It is an award-winning telnet, secure shell (SSH), rlogin, modem and ISDN communications program. Go to http://www.emtec.com/zoc/.

PhotoTiger version 2.51 was released back on 04/09/2001. It is a program for editing digital photos and pictures. Also available is PhotoTiger Animation version 1.01 to animate JPEG images. Go to http://www.phototiger.com/.

Sierra HyperStar Software has released Unimaint Corrective Service level 5.10.23 as of 09/26/2001. Unimaint is a utility to backup and restore your desktop, perform INI file maintenance, view & edit extended attributes, and uninstall applications. Go to http://www.filestar.com/index.html. NOTE: You must have Unimaint version 5 already installed to apply this update.
