Updates from last month's column:

CDR/RW Wizard version 0.9.99 has been released as of 05/28/2001. It is a GUI wizard interface to CDRecord/2 to burn CD-R/CD-RW (data, audio, etc.) It now features BootWizard for creating bootable CD's. Go to http://www.quasarbbs.net/rocco/. NOTE: It requires WarpIn to install, and it is split into 4 files.

StHWMon version 0.16B has been updated as of 05/09/2001. It is a temperature/fan/voltage monitor for motherboards with the VIA_82C686 chip. It can shut down OS/2 and do an APM power-off if a failure occurs. Go to http://home.t-online.de/home/stefan.milcke/hwmon_en.htm.

There is an Enhanced E editor (basically E.EXE with the ability to print, among a few other enhancements). It is now at version 2.4 as of 05/24/2001. Go to http://www.pillarsoft.net/enhanced.html.

eStyler Lite is now at version 1.0.31 as of 05/08/2001. It is a "lite" version of Styler/2 (reviewed by Gary Granat in the July 2000 OS/2 For You). It features enhanced titlebars & push-buttons, Windows 9x key support, and enhanced shutdown. There is a catch: it only works on eComStation. Go to ftp://ftp.ecomstation.com/.

UPS Monitor has been updated as of 05/04/2001. It will monitor the status of an APC UPS, and provide shutdown services to the operating system. Go to http://home.att.net/~ASchw/upsmonitor.html; it lists the supported UPS's.

NetBeans version 3.2 Update is now available as of 05/04/2001. It is a Java IDE written in pure Java. The IDE is based on JFC, and uses its full feature set. Full information and download is at http://www.netbeans.org.

CoolFM version 1.5 has been released. This is a powerful FM radio tuner control program, compatible with most popular FM tuners. Go to http://os2.ru/projects/coolfm/.

cdrecord version 1.10 is now available as of 05/01/2001. This has the capability of burning single-session, multi-session, or audio CD's. Use search key cdrtools on Hobbes. An older version (1.10a15 as of 02/27/2001) is at http://www.os2world.com/cdwriting/cdrecord/cdrecordmain.htm.

An OS/2 port of cdrdao 1.1.5 has been released as of 05/22/2001. It is a free CD-R/RW writing program for Disk At Once mode. Use search key cdrdao on Hobbes.

For those of you who use ZOC: version 4.01 has been released as of 05/15/2001. It is an award-winning Telnet, secure shell (SSH), rlogin, modem, and ISDN communications program. Go to http://www.emtec.com/download.html#zocfiles.

An EMX build of Mozilla 0.9PRE has been released as of 05/23/2001. It contains the new features recently checked into Mozilla, including the new caching algorithm, libprOn, and more. Go to http://anduin.net/mozilla/. NOTE: the build is compressed into the .RAR format.

z! version may24alpha has been released as of 05/24/2001. It is a text-mode MP3 player that can handle streaming audio (Shoutcast). Go to http://dink.org/z/.


This month's new listings - Drivers:

IBM has updated as of 05/16/2001 the driver for the Iomega parallel port ZIP drives to version 1.02. Go to http://service5.boulder.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/Driver+Profile+Web/ppzip.EXE?OpenDocument

IBM has updated as of 05/18/2001 the PRINT01.SYS driver. Go to http://service5.boulder.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/Driver+Profile+Web/PRINT01.EXE?OpenDocument.

IBM has updated as of 05/22/2001 the IDEDASD driver, mainly for CD-ROM/CD-RW, DVD-ROM, & DVD-RAM drives (including USB ones). Go to http://service5.boulder.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/Driver+Profile+Web/IDEDASD.EXE?OpenDocument.

IBM has updated as of 05/23/2001 the driver for Crystal PCI soundcards with CS4614, CS4624, and CS4280 chipsets. The driver is now at version 3.08. It is mainly for Thinkpads with these chipsets, but may work with other soundcards with these chipsets. Go to ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/mobiles/aftpitos.dsk; you will need the LOADDSKF utility to create a driver diskette.


This month's new listings - Applications:

The latest build of Mozilla (the successor to Netscape 4.61) is now at the 0.9.1 level as of 05/25/2001. Go to ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-i386-pcos2-vacpp.zip. Also, a build of Mozilla 0.9 is available as of 05/08/2001; it's now at ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla0.9/; the file is mozilla-i386-pcos2-vacpp-0.9.zip.

IBM has an update for Java 1.1.8 as of 05/21/2001. Go to ftp://ftp.hursley.ibm.com/pub/java/fixes/os2/11/118/. NOTE: You must have Java 1.1.8 already installed.

IBM has updated Java 1.3 as of 05/25/2001 for those with a valid Software Choice subscription. Go to http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/asd-bin/doc/en_us/catalog.html#resfeatwarp. NOTE: IBM has not updated the date on the web page; it says 04/03/2001.

MultiDesk version 0.2.0 has been released as of 05/18/2001. This allows you to have multiple desktops and users under OS/2. It lets you create, delete, and manage desktops; define users, customize environment, video resolution, etc. for each user, and more. Use search key multidesk on Hobbes.

Lotus has released the Domino Server version 5.0.7a update for OS/2. Go to http://www.notes.net/qmrdown.nsf/QMRWelcome.

Audio/Data-CD-Creator version 0.47 is available as of 05/13/2001. It is a folder class for the WPS which works as a front-end for cdrecord/2 for creating audio and data CD's. Just put wavefiles or data into this folder and press "write". Arbitrary ordering of files is possible via drag-and-drop. Go to http://www.os2world.com/cdwriting/creator/creatormain.htm.

UpdCD version 1.63 has been released as of 05/26/2001. It now has a PM interface and supports many OS/2 add-ons. It can be used to update the base Warp 4 or Warp Server for e-Business installation files with FixPaks, and supports the creation of updated installation floppies. You can use the updated OS/2 image in combination with these floppies to create new installations of OS/2 which already incorporate the FixPaks and other software. Ogg Vorbis has been ported to OS/2 as of 05/12/2001. It is an audio compression format similar to MP3, but free of patented algorithms and is fully open source. Go to http://silk.apana.org.au/vorbis/.

For those of you who use eBay: eBayWatch/2 version 0.10h is now available. As the name implies, it is an eBay auction management tool. Go to http://www.eclipse.net/~knkrchnr/.

CD2MP3 PM version 1.14 has been released as of 05/07/2001. Features include: CDDB support to automatically get CD information, as well as ID3 tag support to store the information; "LFN support" for DOS encoders through smart renaming; and more. (Go to http://www.os2bbs.com:80/os2news for more info; by the time you read this, you may have to click on the "More files" link). LBMix version 0.07 was released as of 05/05/2001. It is a universal mixer for sound cards with the IOCTL90 API. Go to http://www.podolsk.ru/~boga/OS2Programs.html.

MAMERun beta 8a, a front-end for the DOS version of MAME, is now available. Go to http://home1.gte.net/stefanj/mamerun.htm.

C-Side version 4.01 has been released as of 05/20/2001. It is a CD-label and cover designer. Go to http://inet.uni2.dk/~kimfoder/C-SIDE.HTM.

Apache version 1.3.20 has been released as of 05/18/2001. It is the premier web server of the Internet. Go to http://apache.org/dist/httpd/binaries/os2/. Also available as of 03/14/2001 is the "in-development" version of Apache 2.0.14, for those who want to try out the new features. This version offers big performance improvements due to multi-threading and elimination of some emx dependencies. Go to http://silk.apana.org.au/apache/apache_v2.shtml.
