March 2000

The President's Message

by Terry Warren

As the famous saying goes, there are three things in life that are inevitable: death, taxes, and SCOUG elections. While we don't have control over the first two, all SCOUG members can (and should) participate in our election at this March meeting to determine who will direct the club and formulate its business policies for the next twelve months.

Although we traditionally have more than enough candidates for the four officer and five director positions, this year the election committee has had a more difficult job in rounding up members who are willing to devote a few hours each month to assist in running SCOUG. So we are asking again for your help in identifying and nominating candidates. Please take some time to think about this before the March 18th meeting. But you don't need to wait until then - Tony Butka and I would love to hear your suggestions now.

The meeting location from last month will be used again in March. We are still interested in evaluating other potential locations so please let us know of any; also we would like to hear feedback on our February meeting, especially suggestions on how to improve use of that facility.

At the March meeting, in addition to the elections, we are scheduled to have a presentation from several DSL providers. There has been a lot of interest and publicity in high-speed Internet access, and DSL is one of several promising solutions. This should be a very interesting and relevant meeting topic.

Lastly, as this will be my last month as SCOUG president, I just wanted to thank all of the club members for assistance and support over the last two years. I also want to wish good luck to the next president and other elected officers and directors.
