SCOUG OS/2 For You - February 1999

Internet SIG Happenings

by Dave Watson

The Internet Special Interest Group arose from humble beginnings in a small log cabin in the back woods of SCOUG. Never good enough for prime time, we had to struggle with meetings at odd times and places. But we persevered and managed to flourish -- clearly the sign of the right message at the right time and place.

In 1998 we evolved to the next stage of our existence. We went virtual, moving back to the Internet from whence we began, but with the years of development and experience necessary to survive and succeed in the frantic environment of today's crowded, bustling Internet.

In 1999 we will continue to grow and develop, seeking new outlets and new members. We have already begun using Internet Relay Chat for our meetings, and are inviting worldwide participants using a variety of announcement outlets. We meet every week now, on Tuesdays at 7PM. We will increase our use of video, using video chat and streaming video. We will broaden our agendas to make sure we stay up with current activities and events on the Internet. We will begin specialized meetings focusing on important new topics at other times.

We hope you will join us, and invite your friends. We need to have your support as well. Your experiences are valuable to many others on the Internet, and if you provide topics or lead sessions at the meetings, we will all benefit. So please look at our web site, at the meetings tab on the Internet SIG web site to find out all about it. Link from SCOUG if you don't already have us bookmarked. It's up to you -- with your support we can continue to grow and evolve. Without you, our electrons will disperse into that great backbone of the 'net.

And virtual cookies are lower in fat and calories, but just as satisfying.
