Historical Duck

On the web, content is king. Far more important than glitzy graphics, content makes people come back again and again.
Let's see how WebFoot measures this month's chosen web sites:

Ratings
Info
Content Links Glitz Type Site (url) and Comments
A+ A   C- OS/2 WarpCast News Service (http://www.os2ezine.com/warpcast) or WarpCast News Service (http://www.os2ss.com/warpcast/). To see what you'd be in for with a free subscription to this OS/2-oriented newsmailer, select "News Archives" and peruse.
B   F   C   Rexx REXX SuperSet/2 from SofTouch Systems, Inc. (http://www.softouch.com/rexx.html). Seven DLLs with over 300 functions give your REXX some oomph. 600 page manual; $80 and $250 versions.
B   B- B- Internet OS/2 Internet SIG (http://users.deltanet.com/users/dwatson/isig.html). Go straight to the Links page -- that's where SIG leader Dave Watson has a few good resources listed. Hey, Dave, how about a site map?
F   F   A+ Attire Texas Swimsuit Calendar (http://www.texasswimsuit.com). Don't depend only on Relish to organize your '98. You'll need a wall calendar for sure.
B   C   A- Trade group IEEE Computer Society (http://www.computer.org). The IEEE is a major force in setting standards and publishing technical journals.
C+ D   C   Java Java SuperStore (http://www.javasuperstore.com). PolyEx Software hits a homer. Good prices.
A   D   D   Java Comp.Lang.Java (news:comp.lang.java). Some light reading for a winter's eve.
A   F   B+ Software OS/2 "Must-Have" Utilities (http://www.musthave.com). There's a free OS/2 driver for Windows NT NTFS partitions under "Disk/Utils".
C   F   C   BIOS Unicore Software Inc. (http://www.unicore.com). New hardware, old machine? A BIOS upgrade may be just the thing.
A   C   B- Definitions TechWeb Technology Encyclopedia (http://www.techweb.com/encyclopedia/defineterm.cgi). Searching on "OS/2" returned a nice definition. Now try "Java", "driver", "object-oriented", and all that stuff you've heard of that you didn't understand.

This month's Duck Feather

OS/2 on the web is hot. Nine months ago the HotBot (http://www.hotbot.com) search engine returned 714,258 "OS/2" hits. Today it's 1,945,885 (a 172% increase), and growing. Rerun those old searches that didn't return much -- your chances of a good response are much better today.
