I'm normally timid (from respect) when it comes to challenging
anything Steven says. Here I must be not understanding what he is
saying. When I want data sorted in a particular manner in a
relational database, one using SQL, I find the "ORDERED BY" clause
to be clear, easy, and stable. It may mean extra work for the
database manager, but that's not my problem.

Peter's use of ascii files doesn't preclude anything. If I
remember correctly, he uses a comma delimited format. Basically
that's available as an export option from a relational database
manager. We could, in fact, take a look at maintenance issues in
general with respect to text data to give a feeling for the
advantages and disadvantages of the various approaches.

I haven't given up on our project. I would like to take an
approach that offers a list of investment categories (objects) and
differing means of their evaluation (methods). As one with
negative net worth and out of the investment business entirely I
will demur to the choices in use by other members. In such a
manner I would hope to construct a set of specifications which we
can then translate into a number of different forms, spreadsheets
and databases among them.
