No sound card equals no sound card. It does not equal no MMOS2.
Installing or replacing a sound card after the initial install is
reasonably trivial. The SmartGuide will let you remove the current sound
card, of for some reason minstall will not. Minstall will install the new
sound card.
How well the card works depends on the drivers.
