I'm confused about a few things re these CPUs. For
starters:
"FSB: 2000MHz HT Speed"
Does this actually mean 1000MHz for each core, and
therefore cumulatively 2000 ? If your MB has a listed
bus speed of 1000, does that mean that this cpu (even
though it appears on the "Compatible" list for that
MB) would then have 1/2 of its capacity going to
waste, if you bought it ? And I don't get the whole
"FSB" business, anyway, as a description.
"Cache: 2x 1MB"
Will this offer inherently superior performance to an
L2 cache that is 2 x 512 (assuming the cpu being
compared is of the same speed) ?
And I would still like to get answers for these two
questions that may have disappeared into the last few
SCOUG server glitches:
Is SMP support no longer an extra-purchase-required
item for eCS ?
Is Martin's issue with getting dual-core running on
his Tyan MB likely due to the prior matter, or getting
it activated correctly if he does have it ?
(Incidentally, Martin, one of the reviews for that MB
on ecomstation.ru's hardware section states that this
MB has ACPI problems in XP and Linux . . . so perhaps
eCS is just an addition to that list. You might also
want to see if you have the latest BIOS for that
board.)
