In order for something to be a problem, it must be running. If it is
just sitting on the HDD it is inert.
You must have at least one profile each for FF, TB and the suite; SM IS
Mozilla. One profile can call as many versions as you can fit on the
HDD. Running more than one version at a time is a whole nother subject.
The only thing in config.sys is:
SET MOZILLA_HOME=X:\MOZPROFILES
SET MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=X:\MOZPROFILES\PLUGINS
It is best if X: can handle long file names. FAT32 is fine.
Put bookmarks and mail in a neutral location and point to them. All
versions, including Win, can share them.
You can copy the address book(s) and cookies between profiles.
You can copy passwords if you keep the name called in prefs.js
