This wasn't using Mesa, but WordPro.  I don't know whether it was shrink 
to fine or not, nor even what font.  I rarely play with fonts - I just 
usually use whatever opens up, unless I have a reason to do otherwise.

I'm not sure that I would know a postscript font it I ran into one on the 
street. :-) 
In any case, adding the Smartsuite font library solved the problem on the 
one test I gave it.
