I discontinued using tape a long time ago because it was too unreliable.

BA has always been able to back up to disk.
CDs are another story. I would never backup directly to a CD (you lose some
compression options) but would consider writing the backup file to CD to save
it for an extended period of time.

I use BA as my backup software as it works well, at least for me. I currently
use a 300gb USB drive to backup all the machines in this house. In the past I
have also used a LAN connected machine as a file server for writing backups but
the backup file size is then limited to 2gb which is a problem these days.
