I am trying to learn more about video cards. For some years I have been
using an AGP Matrox MGA-400 video card with 64 mb RAM and DVI daughter
card. Occasionally, when I have several windows opens, one of them will
only close part way, and I can see through to the background. Sometimes a
program will hang at this point and need to be killed.
I somehow assumed the RAM was getting overwhelmed, and I tried an
inexpensive nVIDIA PCI GeForce 6200 video card with 128 MB DDR RAM and DVI
output. The video with this card is much slower. Windows take longer to
draw, and scrolling is much slower.
My question is do I need to update my Matrox MGA-400 card, and if so, what
would be some good choices. I don't play games -- I just like to open a
lot of windows sometimes.
Thanks,
Sandy
