Since I upgraded from Mozilla 1.7.8 to SeaMonkey 1.0 a few days ago, I
have seen a SeaMonkey message "building summary file for Inbox" several
times. It takes around a minute to do this. So far, it has been
successful, and I haven't lost any messages, etc., but I do have to
reeducate the mail reader that I want to see a threaded view each time.

I'm wondering why this is happening?
Thanks,
Colin

Background information:
My mail file dates from Netscape days. The directory path is
"F:\NETSCAPE\USERS\cmcampb\Mail5\Mail\Mail", and some files in it are
dated as early as January 30, 2004. I had not compacted the file for a
long time - maybe ever - and it was 380MB in size; now it is 92MB. Some
time ago, I pointed at this mail directory in Mozilla (in order to keep
my mail together despite changing browsers), and I have used old
Profiles when upgrading since.

I noticed that the Sent file was also quite large. When I opened it, I
also got the "building summary file for Sent" message. I deleted about
half of the sent messages and compacted this file; then I deleted a lot
of stuff from Trash and compacted that, too.

All told, I have regained over 250MB of space in this directory.

I looked at Help for SeaMonkey, but I didn't see any info about how the
mail and newsgroup files are managed.
