Jerry,
I'm not sure this answers your question, but I also have SBC Yahoo DSL. I use eCS 1.14
and a hardware router between my machine and the DSL modem. Your network setup
is done primarily by 2 applications:
Application Executable
1. Adapters and Protocols ?\IBMCOM\MPTS.EXE
2. TCP/IP Configuration Notebook ?\TCPIP\BIN\TCPCFG2.CMD
Above, "?", represents your boot drive. You will find both applications in the "Local
System\System Setup\Network" folder on your eCS destop.
The "Adapters and Protocols" deals primarily with attaching the desired drivers and
protocols to your network adapter card(s). I assume that you've done that correctly,
probably through the eCS installation.
The "TCP/IP Configuration Notebook" application sets up your Network interface from
your computer to the outside. It has several text files that configure it. The primary one is
the "?\MPTN\BIN\SETUP.CMD" file. You can configure the notebook manually by
individually changing each of its configuration files. But my guess is that all you need to
do is set the "LAN0 interface" to "automatically uses DHCP". That's what I have on my
system.
On my system my router acts to provide my eCS computer with a dynamic IP address. If
you do not have a hardware router and you connect to SBC directly, my guess is that
SBC supplies you with a dynamic IP address each time you connect. Therefore if so,
you can configure the "TCP/IP Configuration Notebook" to "automatically uses DHCP"
and the DHCP component on your machine will pick up the IP address that SBC is
sending out. If you manually change the SETUP.CMD file, it will look something like this:
route -fh
REM ifconfig lan0
dhcpstrt -i lan0
There will be other entries in that file, but the ones involving LAN0 are the ones you
want.
