That's not the useful way to create a new profile. Use Mozilla's profile
manager.
Have you tried deleting xul.mfl and compreg.dat?
Are you attempting to use really old and relatively new versions of
Mozilla with the same profile?

Hmmm. Let me know what happens after you create a proper new profile. Do
not import anything into the new profile. Recall that we are using this
profile to find out what's wrong. No sense importing bad data any sooner
than will be useful.
