I think it is.  Only MS products use active-x which is hugh security hole.   
Since Mozilla also have large number of users it is going to be a target but  
for my active-x is very definitely the difference.

I would say yes.  
 
On my wife's machine running XP I do not have a virus checker as it seems to  
get in the way more than any benefits that I can see.  She uses Mozilla and not  
IE, her email client is Polarbar which is set to display the email message as  
text only ( no HTML email in this house).  So far no problems.
