If your backup copies need to be kept off-site, then your present   
approach is probably fine.  
The price of hard drives is low, so you might consider buying one for   
backup purposes  
(either internal or external drive), and using dsync (downloadable from   
hobbes) to copy files,  
or DFSEE to periodically clone key partition copies to the backup hard   
drive; if you keep  
your data files in a separate partition, that makes this approach easier.  
You can always continue using RSJ to offload bulky files you do not   
expect to use in the near future, such as  
photo jpg files, just to conserve HD space.
