It's starting to come back to me - they ARE different, but have the same
name. When I installed it, the instructions made a point of it (as well
as the fact that it was dumb to do so!).

Correct, though hcimonit have not been run until a few moments ago. (We
didn't run it at the Help desk, and I didn't run it here until your last
post.) Also, the Hardware Manager still does not see the controller.
