Hello:
I' wondering if anyone has downloaded and attempted to use NewView version 2.14.37
(from Hobbes). If so, I'm having the following problem with it:
It complains that it cannot find its own help file, but it otherwise works. That is, I
get the message, "NewView help file not found", when opening NewView.
Here's what happened, when I installed it:
1. It aborted the installation the first time, because it could not find it's own
help file, NewView.inf, within the *.zip extracted files. In fact, it wasn't there! So, I "made" a
copy by copying the file, NewView.hlp, which was there. I renamed the copy to
NewView.inf and returned it to the set of extracted files.
2. I restarted the installation to success. It installed NewView.EXE as well
as the "made up copy" of NewView.inf into the desired NewView folder
3. I renamed the previously existing (old) files, NewView.EXE,
NewView.inf and NewView.ini to remove their influence from the use of NewView. I
created an addition onto the SET PATH= statement to include the new installation of
NewView. I rebooted
3. However, when I open NewView it complains that it cannot find its help
file (NewView help file not found).
4. NewView otherwise loads, but it does not have any of its own online
help (the help menu item contains nothing).
5. I tried to fix things by moving a copy of NewView.inf to the E:\ecs\book
folder and by placing the NewView installation folder path in the "SET HELP="
statement inside the CONFIG.SYS (the E:\ecs\help path is already there).
6. I rebooted after all this, but it did not work. NewView still complains that
it cannot find its own help file
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Thanks.
