I'm bringing a new system to life. It is a barebones kit consisting of a SOYO
SY-KT600 Dragon Plus MB with an AMD Athlon XP2800 (Barton Core -- whatever that
means) and 512MB of memory.(can be expanded to 3GB). Storage consists of an
80GB Hitachi Deskstar, and two 90GB Hitachi Deskstars (one removable). Also
installed is a Hi-Val DVD-R/RW Combo burner (is supposed to also burn CD-R/RW)
and a 1.44mb floppy drive. All this is contained in a Chieftec case with a 400
watt power supply.

Assembly is complete and the system checks out on the BIOS and on bootable
DFSee. Now, it is time to begin thinking about partitioning and OS
installation. I will be running eCS (I have base 1.1 on hand) on this system.
This will be my first experience with LVM. I _think_ I understand the
difference between physical partitions and volumes. For now, I'm just looking
at space allocations (which probably corresponds most closely to LVM volumes).
I know how I want to allocate my space:

Physical Drive 1 -- 80
GB

	USE TYPE SIZE FILES
YS
Bootmanager
Primary OS Pri/Log?	01 GB HPFS
Applications Log 20 GB JFS
Utilities Log 10
GB JFS
Installable Software Log 10 GB JFS
"Development" Log 20
GB JFS
	(Remainder -- Future Expansion)

Physical Drive 2 -- 90
GB

	USE TYPE SIZE FILES
YS
Maint OS Log 01 GB HPFS
Backup Storage Log 60 GB JFS
	(Remainder -- Future Expansion)

Physical Drive 3 -- 90 GB
(Removable)

	USE TYPE SIZE FILES
YS
Maint OS Log 01 GB HPFS
Work Area/Other Storage	Log 60 GB JFS

For now, I'm considering each of these allocations as a volume (correct me if
I'm wrong on this). Obviously, the HPFS volumes are each include a single
partition. My questions to more experienced heads are 1) Should I plan to
allocate single partitions or multiple partitions for the JFS volumes? and 2)
do I need to allocate the unused space on each drive to partitions _now_ or can
I wait until I need the space -- if I ever do?

I'll appreciate all comments.
