OK, I'll try it.  
 
I did edit MPTstart.cmd, changing ECHO OFF to ECHO ON, but no change, so  
I'll try what you suggested.  
 
Meanwhile, more info:  
 
Googling, I found that lantran.log was where I might find a clue [for  
years, SOME people have told me to find a clue ;-) ].    
 
Lantran.log said:  
 
IBM OS/2 LAN NETBIND  
PRO0022: An unspecified error occurred when the program tried to bind  
VECTOR to RTL8139_NIF.  
 
If I remove the netbios protocol, the lantran then says the same thing  
except "VECTOR" is now TCPIP_NIF.  Changing back reverts to the original  
error message.
