I also understand a few of the issues.  There's something about the way  
the newer laptops are partition and/or formatted that confuses LVM.  I've  
built a test program that mimics what I believe is the failure mode.  It's  
already been sent out to a few folks with "problem" systems and I am  
awaiting feedback.  The test program is a native OS/2 app is available on  
request, via private e-mail, to those that suspect they have system that  
should support installation above the 1024 limit.
