My 2 cents:
Whenever installing OS/2 or eCS always choose plain VGA only !!!
After all is installed the first connection should go to:

ftp://ftp.scitechsnap.com =

and download the most accurate SNAP ;-)

I suspect David already did this, otherwise he would not seen the
"loading
screen01.sys" message. David, is this the case? If so, the next step
is
to try alternative video modes from the advanced boot setting menu.
