Well, this is very interesting.

On that particular computer, there is no:

x:\os2\archives
os2.key
x:\os2\boot\altf1mid.scr

I do have scenter.cfg (in the os2\dll directory).

Also, I now see that if I wait long enough, about 10 minutes, the Back
Desktop eventually does work.
