J.R.,
I run SCSI's too, using an Adaptec 29160N card and the 68 pin (expensive) Adaptec
cable.

I had trouble only with 1 hard drive. The SMART technology on it started to warn me of
an imminent hard drive failure. I immediately made a complete backup of the drive and
ordered a new one. I quickly replaced it before the problem got any more serious.

A little latter on I started having problems with the software/BIOS on the Adaptec card. It
began to fail at recognizing the hard drives attached, and therefore the BIOS bootup
would stall and time out. ALT-CNTRL-DEL would temporarily fix that. Then, it started
taking 2 or 3 ALT-CNTRL-DEL's to get by the error. I got another Adaptec card and
haven't had any problems since.

J.R., I'm betting its one of your hard drives. I advise you not to play with it. At a minimum
make a full backup of the drive that's giving you the problem (or, all drives, if you don't
know which one). If you think its the cable or the card, still make a solid backup for
safety, just in case (if it is the cable or card, you could end up with corrupted data on the
drives). If you think you have a temperature problem, fix that. But also, ASAP order and
install a new drive. Transfer your backup to the new drive. Test it out for elimination of
the problem.

I think you are lucky/fortunate so far in that you can still boot. I guarantee you, if its the
drive, the problem will get worse and one day you will not be able to boot.
