"Somebody" with the initials C.a.r.t.e.r. suggested I buy my car stereo
on sale at Fry's. (Note that this is still an OS/2 topic 'cause I want
to play MP3's that I create using OS/2. So there.)

I go to Fry's at 9 a.m. this morning when they open. I talk to the
salesman who didn't want to help me until the TV show he was watching
finished (did you know they have $1999 car televisions at Fry's?). He
shows me a $129 Panasonic that he says is exactly what I need. I buy
it, along with their $30 installation package. He makes an appointment
for 3 p.m. at their auto installation garage around back.

Just to be sure, I scoot over to auto installation and verify my 3 p.m.
appointment, and show them what I just bought and let them look in the
truck to make sure it's correct. "No problem," says Juan.

At 3 p.m. I'm back at Fry's. The boss comes over and says "You can't
put that in this truck!" I tell him Juan says you can. He yells at
Juan. Then he calls the auto guys inside the store and tells them what
I need. I go back in. It costs another $335 (total is now about $500
for my car stereo) and they hand deliver the stuff to the auto
installation crew.

I wait. And wait. The boss comes over. "You can't put that stuff in
this truck," he says quietly.

"What do I need to buy?" I say. "Can you come back tomorrow," he says,
"we close at 4:30 which is ten minutes from now."

He puts all the stuff on the seat in my truck. I drive around to the
front, take the stuff back into Fry's, and return it.

Now if I can just get ahold of the guy over at Quick Midnight Car Stereo
. . .

They did the whole exchange and return for full credit quite nicely.
They _did_ have to go two managers up for approval but there were no
problems.

Well maybe you have better vibes than I. Fry's had a Blaupunkt
unadvertised special -- $60 for a car stereo AM/FM/CD/MP3. But the
sales guy said I needed the better one.

It's so hard to play an OS/2 MP3 CD without a player.
