...Why blame the politicians? _They_ haven't done anything.
-------------------------
They haven't done anything _useful_ but they've tried to "help" by passing
several pointless laws. Not clear that the increase in spam after the
recent implementation of the federal law is related to that attempt, but it
apparently didn't help. No evidence nor rational expectation that the
superceded California attempt would have helped, either. But helpful or
not, politicians are entertaining. Even local ones. Maybe I'll start up my
old "politiciansarescum" web site again. All I did was cite public record
of many politician foibles. Lots of material.
But spam stats wasn't the point. I was just pointing out the difficulty of
defining spyware, just like spam isn't necessarily a 4-letter word to all
observers. The real issue with spyware is executables that can actually
leave monitors and reporters on your system, and those would likely be
Windows programs. So an answer to the original question here of whether
spyware should be a concern for OS2 users is "probably not." Unless you're
worried about cookie-based traffic collection. Back in the ISIG days I used
to bring cookies (the confections) to the meetings as a device to support my
contention that cookies are good. I haven't found much since then to change
my opinion.
I think in general it's safe to say OS2 users are insulated from most
network security problems. Not immune, just a big improvement.
DISCLAIMER: I apologize if I inadvertently offended any politicians. I
never want to do it inadvertently.
