All of what I previously posted assumes you already have a Mozprofiles
dir and it has a prefs.js. For a new installation I started with a
version that is an executable--eg 1.4.
Run it and let it install on your chosen partition.
With a file manager, look at the directory structure. If you are happy
with it, then just replace the Mozilla dir with whatever version you
want, plus the other stuff.
If you want to move things, like mail and the prefs dir, delete the
Mozilla dir and move the other directories around. Run the installation
executable again. Now that there is an existing dir structure Mozilla
install will accept it rather than creating it's own.
Or something like that. I haven't done a fresh install for a long time.
Now if I want it on a new drive or machine I just copy the dir and
fiddle with prefs.
