Because that's what you do with PC power supplies; plug in a spare.   
Their problems can be subtle.  
 
And they are cheap.  $10-12 Pomona and on-line.  I recently got a 450   
for about $10 at Fry's--after playing the lottery(rebate game).  
 
I could probably come up with a test procedure--that may or may not   
require a scope.
