What a great blast from the past! Peter is a *great* writer.
I've only played with the voicemail portion, subsequent to that review.
It works. The main problem with using a modem for voicemail is when it
hangs, it's hung. We've all suffered this when using modems - one of the
advantages of an external modem is that you can turn it off without
shutting down your computer. This is not a PMFax issue, really - it's a
modem issue.
You CAN buy a better piece of hardware that will eliminate those problems,
as well as heavy duty software to handle it - Kim Cheung was in that
business, and offered an OS/2 app for that. ISTR that a decent piece of
hardware cost $1,000.
