I've been wrestling with an ill desktop, but need to ask for help now.

I started with the same problem I had a while ago (no desktop, bix comes
up that says "installed:", click ok of cancel will give you os/2 window).
I fixed that by editing my sysini file. Had it again and used a backup!

This time unimaint gave me a dump when I tried to use a backup to restore
the ini files from backup. So I took an ini backup, and manually copied
it to x:\os2 while booted to another partition.

To make a longer story shorter, I end up with a temporary desktop, and I
see that my desktop directory on my C: drive is gone. Unimaint doesn't
restore my desktop directory from my backup, using the restore directory
command. The wps gives me an error message telling me "The desktop
directory specified by the SET DESKTOP= line in config.sys does not exist
or is corrupted. The directory stored in os2.ini will be used instead,"
followed by "Your desktop could not be found in the user ini file. an
attempt will be made to create a temproary directory. If this fails, a
console will be displayed."
