And I've maintained this, both for the H/D cache and the memory cache. It
worked fine before, but not now, so it has to be something else.

I suppose you are referring to an ISO image. I never bothered learning how
to do this with RSJ, because I had the dual-drive setup in the full-size
tower, and that worked just fine for me, until now. Since I only have one
drive in the Shuttle -- the burner -- I guess I'll have to learn this
procedure anyway, and maybe start using it for the tower as well.

This is most likely the culprit. There has been a history of problems with
the devices on that cable with those connectors.

I do have (have always had) one SCSI card (U2W) for the hard drives, plus
one (2940U) for the slow devices. There is an external cable for the
scanner on the latter.
