I am retired also.

I bought an IBM T41 Thinkpad, it cost about $1700.00 (it has a combination DVD
reader CD burner). I kept XP pro (I have one windows program I use) and added
an eCS partition which is where I do most of my computing.

The partitions are
boot manager
XP
eCS
JFS (data)
FAT32 (shared data)

I have just received my restore CDs so I will be changing the hidden restore
partition into another data partition. If you want to do this you need to
order your restore CDs within 30 days (or they charge for them) of your
Thinkpad purchase.
