My wife teaches first grade. She teaches kids to write. If you think
I should, I will ask her to tutor me. Obviously a couple college
degrees, including tech writing, have not done the job. I cannot
believe where this thread has gone.

But first please read the original post once more. It refers to a
"box that looked like Minstall" that had the option to uninstall
Generic Installer. And what does Minstall have to do with Mozilla?
Is somebody trying to use Minstall to install Mozilla? I guess it
couldn't be much worse that some of the other efforts I have heard of.

I never said what I was trying to install, I wanted to try to avoid
side trips, and the installation of all components went rather well --
except for this Generic Installer thing.

What I was installing was an update of Audio\Data CD Creator and a
couple addons. I did learn a new - for me - gotcha; UIN files. Works
like this. Run the apps uninstall utility. Everything seems to go
OK. Try to install the new version. Can't, the old one is still
installed. Run three different INI cleaners; no effect. Why?
Because there is a X:\APPS\CWINST\INSTDATA\xxxx.uin. Delete that and
NOW the app is uninstalled. I never knew OS/2 had those kinds of
stray pieces, Win yes.

But what is Generic Installer? How do I update it from 1.6 to 1.7, if
I should? It has an object in my utilities folder but I cannot
connect that to a file name.

Ray
