Make sure that you check the IBM website tool for information on the
current status of your Thinkpad warranty.
Steve Shiffman checked everyone's status at a not-too-long-ago SCOUG Help
desk, and found that mine was not in warranty. Not surpising for a 5 year
old laptop, except that a year ago, I paid for a service contract, which
should have given me two more years.
I checked it out, and found a snafu on IBM's part - they never processed
it. Everything was fine, and then my butt was saved when my laptop went
down midweek last week. IBM now has my machine, and I will be back in
business within a day or two.
