How should I get it configured? (I haven't had a laptop before. Since
I'm retired, and likely to work only occasionally if at all from now on,
I expect the Thinkpad would be used largely for my own amusement and
OS/2 / eCS amazement. I have two eCS licenses, so I need a second
computer to put eCS on, don't I? )
I think I'd like to have a DVD burner, and I'm sure I'd like to be able
to watch DVD movies.
How much memory should I buy?
Do I want SXGA, or is XGA good enough?
Should I worry about the super duper graphic card?
A 40GB disk seems to be the norm on most models (and I have two 20GB
drives on my desktop with lots of space left); do I need 80GB?
Do I need a docking station at home?
Should I buy a spare battery?
What accessories are "smart buys"? (Is there a way to power the PC
while in one's car?)
I notice that there is quite a wide price range, from around $1800 well
into the $4000+ area. How much should I look at spending?
Or, since Steven Levine mentioned that Jerry Rash was having good luck
with Dell computers, should I be looking at the Dell offerings? (We
bought my daughter a pretty high end Dell laptop for Christmas 2001, and
she just had a problem which may be that her hard drive is messed up /
dead. Naturally, we got a two year warranty!)
Thanks,
Colin
