I want to run Gramofile to process .WAV files recorded from cassette
tapes and Vinyl records. It seems that I need XFree86 to do this.
The documentation for XFree86 makes a lot of assumptions about prior
knowledge of such programs which I do NOT have!

Is there any tutorial available for installing XFree86 written without
the requirement for prior knowledge?

Is there another Xwindows environment available which would be simpler
and still run Gramofile and other programs ported from unix?

I need this to run under eCS 1.1 & 1.2.
