I don't know what the Earthlink setup is but if it is a DSL modem that plugs
into a ethernet card you should not have a problem (unless they are like AOL
and require you to use their software to access their service).
My DSL service is a DSL modem plugged into an ethernet card. Another ethernet
card is plugged into a hub that connects my home LAN. Since DSL is always on
you really should have a firewall on the DSL line, either a hardware firewall
(something like a Linksys router between the DSL line and your computer, this
also eliminates the need for a second NIC in your machine) or software firewall
(I use the Injoy Firewall, which requires two NICs in the computer).
