That's quite ridiculous.  I'm more patient than a lot of folks, but there's almost nothing I'd wait that long for, pagewise.  
(I mean the *4 min.* load time, even.  Forget about the other one.)  Has to be something else.  I just installed 1.7.2 into an  
eCS 1.1 partition, and although I've only used it for a couple hours so far, I'd have to say it seemed pretty snappy to me.  
Loaded some demanding pages, too.
