I am sad to correct you but you believe wrong:
It did NOT !!!
At that time it was also recomended / suggested to do a virgin
installation !!
The same was said to eCS: Preferable do NOT install over an existing
OS/2 !
The difference of the Upgrade is not technical but legal case :-)
However, have a nice weekend and fun with your new installed OS ;-))
