I doubt this.  Unless I'm forgetting something, Mozilla never worked with  
Java 1.1.8.

This is reasonable.  What happens if you issue:  
 
  x:\java131\jre\bin\java -version  
 
from the command line?  Change x: to match your boot drive.

OK.  The important thing is not to have any of the broken plugins  
installed.
