I doubt that is the case.  If you config.sys loads os2lvm.dmd, you are 
using LVM.

I don't think LVMGUI works correctly under v1.4.  IAC, you need to test 
from the command line if you want to see the error messages, but you know 
this. 
Install v1.3.1 correctly and use it to run LVMGUI.  If you want some other 
Java to be your default java, modify the LVMGUI Program Object or the 
script it runs to invoke Java 1.3.1 explicitly as: 
  c:\java131\bin\java.exe
