OK. Now we need to roll up our sleeves and get serious.

Before I discovered that I needed lpt1 for LPD printer (you did change it back to lpt1 from lp didn't
you) I went through several tests. Here is one you might try:

1) Print a page to the printer you have connected to LPT1. This is to make sure LPT1 is working.
2) Connect the "LAN printer" to LPT1 using the cable you plan to use with the SMC.
3) In the properties notebook of the printer object that you are using to do LAN printing, change the
port to LPT1.
4) Print the same page (to change as few variables at one time as possiblle).
5) If the page doesn't print then the problem is with the printer/cable or maybe the incorrect printer
driver. If is prints then the SMC is still not set up correctly.
6) Assuming LPT1 prints, connect the SMC w/o printer to your LAN. Log into the SMC and check status.
It should report "printer not ready".
7) Connect the printer but don't turn it on. Refresh the SMC - S/B "printer not ready". (abundance of
caution)
8) Turn the printer on. Refresh - Status should be "printer ready".
9) Go back to the printer object properties and change the port back to \pipe\lpd0 and the LPD printer
to lpt1. Make sure the "LPD Server" points to the IP address of the SMC (whatever you used to log onto
it with)
10) try printing the same page again.

Sheridan
